Cubs LHP Matthew Boyd (biceps) begins rehab assignment

Mandatory Credit: Matt Marton-Imagn Images Chicago Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd started a minor league rehab assignment Thursday as the 2025 National League All-Star closes in on a return from a biceps strain.
Boyd gave up three runs on four hits over 3 2/3 innings for Triple-A Iowa, while throwing 64 pitches (46 for strikes) at Columbus. He had one walk and six strikeouts.
Boyd could return to the Cubs' rotation as early as next week, according to manager Craig Counsell, with Chicago set to face the Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Boyd, 35, is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA over two starts with the Cubs this season. He also gave up three runs in a 2 1/3-inning relief appearance for the United States in the World Baseball Classic.
Boyd is 61-78 with a 4.59 ERA in 215 career appearances (201 starts) for the Toronto Blue Jays (2015), Detroit Tigers (2015-21, 2023), Seattle Mariners (2022), Cleveland Guardians (2024) and Cubs.
